Eyelid surgery for women and men
MADRID | ZURICH
Eyelid surgery transforms the most striking area of your face: the eyes. Given the continuous mobility, anatomical variations and delicate skin in this area, the ageing process usually begins around the eyes. Blepharoplasty delays the signs of ageing and is a fast, safe and immediately effective procedure.
Depending on your needs, blepharoplasty may be performed on the upper, lower or both (full) eyelids. Elements that can be addressed include the removal of excess skin, fat, part of the muscle and/or bags. Many patients seek this procedure for reasons such as a tired look, puffiness, bags, or difficulty reading and working at the computer. One of the most frequent comments after surgery is: “Why didn't I have this done before...?.
Dr. Richard Fakin's specialised knowledge of the three-dimensional architecture of the face, combined with his extensive experience, guarantees natural and long-lasting results.

Types of blepharoplasty
What type of blepharoplasty is ideal for each patient?
The type of dermis, age and anatomical dimensions are fundamental elements in opting for the most appropriate eyelid lift procedure. Blepharoplasty can remove excess skin, fat, bags and/or wrinkles in the upper and lower eyelids. In all its forms, the scars are imperceptible, regardless of whether the access is transcutaneous (outside) or transconjunctival (inside).

Surgical Technique
How is blepharoplasty surgery performed?
It is usually performed under local anaesthesia or, in some cases (mainly lower blepharoplasty), intravenous sedation is used. In all cases, recovery is very quick, allowing patients to resume their daily activities shortly after the procedure.
Duration and complementary procedures
This procedure has a very high success rate. The results remain intact for an estimated 8 to 12 years. However, it is important to note that the ageing process of the dermis continues, although it can be prolonged with the use of medicinal cosmetics, sun protection and state-of-the-art equipment. Combined with other facial procedures, such as facial fat grafting, face and neck lifting or rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty is positioned as a key element in the overall rejuvenation of the face.
Blepharoplasty:
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between upper and lower blepharoplasty and how do we choose?
The upper one removes excess skin and, if necessary, fat; the lower one treats bags and/or skin laxity. Sometimes we combine the two. The decision is made according to your anatomy, skin quality and desired look.
Does blepharoplasty change the shape of my eyes or my expression?
Dr. Fakin aims to rejuvenate your eyes while respecting your identity. We place incisions in natural creases and preserve the eyelid supports to avoid “round eyes” or an artificial look. We always aim for a fresh and natural result.
What is the recovery like after blepharoplasty?
Bruising and oedema are common in the first few days and improve in 1-2 weeks. Social reintegration is usually quick (≈7 days). Scars mature over several months and are usually virtually invisible.
Where are blepharoplasty scars and how can they be cared for?
In upper blepharoplasty, in the natural crease; in lower blepharoplasty, just under the eyelashes or transconjunctivally (without an external scar) if we only treat bags. At the clinic we offer a care protocol with massage, moisturising and photoprotection to optimise the result.
Can it be combined with laser, canthopexy or other techniques to optimise the result?
Yes, depending on the case, we can combine laser/peeling to improve skin quality, canthopexy for lateral support or ptosis correction. The plan is personalised to achieve a global and stable rejuvenation.
