Facial ageing is not just a superficial process of the skin. Over time, progressive changes occur in the bone structure, fat and supporting tissues that modify the projection, symmetry and expression of the face.
Hyaluronic acid treatments can act on these structures in a precise way, restoring volume and improving facial balance without the need for surgery.
The differences between a young and an ageing face are not limited to the appearance of wrinkles. The loss of support in the cheekbones, jaw or chin, as well as the redistribution of facial volume, generate a more fatigued and less defined appearance.
At Dr. Richard Fakin's clinic, facial rejuvenation is approached from a structural and personalised perspective. The aim is not to transform the face, but rather to regain proportions and maintain a natural and balanced appearance.

Indications
When to consider facial rejuvenation with hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic acid treatment may be considered when signs of ageing related to volume loss, altered proportions or tissue laxity begin to appear.
Beyond a generic aesthetic indication, this type of treatment responds to specific anatomical changes. Depending on the case, it can help to:
- Restore cheekbone volume, restoring support to the middle third of the face and improving the transition between the lower eyelid and the cheek.
- Smooth nasolabial folds, which are often accentuated by loss of structure rather than excess skin.
- Improve jaw contouring, providing definition and reducing the sensation of sagging
- Enhance chin projection, key to the harmony of the facial profile
- Redistribute facial volume, correcting imbalances between different areas of the face
- Improve skin quality, in treatments focused more towards biostimulation than volume restoration.
The indication is not based on an isolated area, but on the overall reading of the face. For this reason, treatment planning must always be carried out after an individual medical assessment.
Techniques used
How hyaluronic acid facial rejuvenation is performed
The treatment consists of injecting hyaluronic acid in strategic points of the face, following a previously defined plan based on the anatomy and needs of each patient. The goal is not simply to “fill wrinkles”, but to work on the structures that condition facial ageing.
- Restoration of facial volume
One of the most significant changes over time is the loss of volume in key areas of the face. This loss not only affects the appearance, but also the support of the tissues. The infiltration of hyaluronic acid can act in areas such as:
- Cheekbones, to regain projection and structural support
- Nasolabial folds, by addressing them at their source and not just superficially
- Marionette lines, improving the transition between the lip and the jaw
- Chin, strengthening the structure of the lower third
- Jawline, restoring continuity to the facial contour
The aim is to restore volumes in a manner consistent with the patient's anatomy, avoiding artificial results or overcorrections.
- Facial contour definition
The lower third of the face plays a decisive role in the perception of youth and facial structure. With hyaluronic acid, it is possible to work on the lower third of the face:
- the mandibular profile, providing definition without stiffness
- the jaw line, improving the continuity of the contour
- the projection of the chin, balancing the profile
This type of treatment allows the facial oval to be subtly redefined, without modifying the expression or generating excessive volume.
- Improvement of skin quality (Profhilo®)
Profhilo® is a treatment based on high-purity hyaluronic acid, which acts differently from traditional fillers.
It is not aimed at providing volume, but at improving skin quality from the inside out thanks to its ability to stimulate collagen and elastin production.
Its composition allows for wide diffusion throughout the tissue, which favours deep hydration and a progressive improvement of skin firmness and elasticity.
The treatment is carried out by the BAP (Bio Aesthetic Points) technique, which consists of application at strategic points to achieve a homogeneous distribution. The treatment generally includes:
- two sessions 3-4 weeks apart
- one maintenance session every 6 months
After application, small elevations may appear on the skin, which disappear within 24-48 hours.
One treatment, consisting of two applications at intervals of 3 to 4 weeks, is usually sufficient to produce a visible anti-ageing effect. 6 weeks after the 2nd treatment, the final result is visible. Thereafter, a booster treatment every 6 months is recommended to maintain the result.
- Combined treatments
The results of hyaluronic acid treatment are immediately visible, although its complete integration into the tissues is best seen after a few days.
The duration of the result may vary depending on the treated area, the type of product and the individual characteristics of the patient, and may last up to 24 months.
Beyond the isolated result, hyaluronic acid is part of a broader approach to facial rejuvenation. In many cases, it can be performed as a stand-alone treatment, but it can also be combined with other techniques to enhance and prolong the overall result. Common combinations include:
- Neuromodulators, to treat expression wrinkles associated with muscle movement
- Microfocused ultrasound (Ulthera), aimed at improving the firmness of tissues
- Laser or IPL, to act on skin quality and texture
- Superficial peels that promote skin renewal
- Surgical procedures, such as a facelift, in cases where there is a more advanced structural component.
In this context, hyaluronic acid acts as the structural basis of the treatment, while the other techniques allow other ageing factors to be addressed, contributing to a more complete, balanced and long-lasting result.
The indication of these treatments, either alone or in combination, should always be made after an individual medical assessment.
Security
Materials and treatment considerations
Only biocompatible, resorbable products designed to integrate safely into the tissues are used. Beyond the product, the safety of the treatment largely depends on:
- a correct indication
- anatomical knowledge
- the infiltration technique
- pre-planning
When these factors are respected, the treatment has a low complication rate. It is important to follow medical recommendations after the procedure to minimise side effects such as swelling or minor bruising.
Recovery and results
Evolution after facial rejuvenation treatment
The results are visible immediately, although the final appearance is best seen after a few days, when the product is integrated into the tissues. It may appear during the first hours or days:
- slight swelling
- small bruises
- slight tenderness in the treated area
These effects usually resolve progressively. The duration of the result depends on many factors, but is usually between 12 and 24 months.
The aim of the treatment is not to change the face, but to improve its appearance in a natural way, respecting individual expression and characteristics.
Facial rejuvenation with hyaluronic acid:
Frequently Asked Questions
What is facial rejuvenation with hyaluronic acid?
It is a non-surgical treatment that uses hyaluronic acid fillers to restore volume, improve facial structure and correct imbalances in facial proportions. Unlike other treatments, it does not act on the muscle, but on the facial support, which allows to recover projection and harmony in a natural way.
How long do the results of hyaluronic acid on the face last?
The duration depends on the area treated, the type of product and the characteristics of the patient. In general, the results are usually maintained for 12 to 24 months, although areas with greater mobility may require touch-ups sooner.
Does hyaluronic acid treatment hurt?
Discomfort is mild and well tolerated. The procedure is performed under topical or local anaesthesia, which makes the application quick and comfortable for the patient.
When are the results of facial rejuvenation visible?
The effect is visible immediately after treatment. However, the definitive result is best seen after a few days, when the product integrates into the tissues and the possible initial inflammation decreases.
Can it be combined with other aesthetic treatments?
Yes, it is common to combine hyaluronic acid with other procedures to address different causes of facial ageing. For example:
- neuromodulators, to treat expression wrinkles
- biostimulation treatments, to improve the quality of the skin
- technologies such as laser or ultrasound
The combination is always defined on a case-by-case basis.
What is the difference between hyaluronic acid and neuromodulators?
Hyaluronic acid and neuromodulators act on different causes of ageing. Hyaluronic acid restores volume and structure, while neuromodulators relax the muscle activity that causes expression lines. For this reason, in many cases they are used in a complementary manner.
Is it a safe treatment?
When resorbable products are used and performed by a professional with anatomical knowledge, it is a safe procedure with a low complication rate. The correct indication and application technique are decisive for a good result.
