These conditions can occur at different stages of life and affect physical wellbeing, self-confidence, intimate relationships and quality of life.
At Dr Richard Fakin’s clinic, we offer focal shockwave treatments using the technology DUOLITH SD1 T-TOP Ultra, a non-surgical option that can form part of the medical management of certain intimate, urinary and vulvovaginal symptoms.
Each treatment is prescribed following a personalised medical assessment, taking into account each patient’s symptoms, anatomy, medical history and needs. The treatment is planned on the basis of the patient’s anatomy and health condition, regardless of their gender identity.

Treatment
How is focal shockwave therapy carried out?
The treatment is carried out in the clinic. During the session, the specialist applies focal shock waves to the areas indicated, based on the patient’s diagnosis and symptoms.
The procedure is usually well tolerated and does not require anaesthesia in most cases. The number of sessions and their frequency are determined on an individual basis following a medical assessment.
Before starting treatment, the case is assessed, the symptoms are reviewed and it is determined whether DUOLITH SD1 T-TOP Ultra is a suitable option. In some cases, this treatment may be combined with other medical, gynaecological, hormonal or pelvic floor rehabilitation measures to optimise the management of the problem.
Indications
When might focal shockwave therapy be considered?
Treatment with focal shockwave therapy may be considered for patients with intimate, urinary or vulvovaginal symptoms that affect their comfort, sexual function or quality of life.
Conditions that can be assessed during a consultation include:
• urinary incontinence
• vaginal dryness
• vaginal atrophy
• vaginitis or persistent vulvovaginal discomfort, always after ruling out an active infection or other specific causes
• discomfort during or after sexual activity
• vulvovaginal irritation or tenderness
•intimate symptoms associated with hormonal changes or the menopause
Whether treatment is indicated always depends on an individual medical assessment. Not all cases are suitable for treatment, particularly where symptoms may be related to infections, active inflammation or other causes that require a specific approach.
Urinary incontinence
Urinary incontinence and intimate wellbeing
Urinary incontinence is the involuntary loss of urine. It can occur when straining, coughing, laughing or playing sport, or it may be associated with a feeling of urgency that is difficult to control.
In selected patients, focal shockwave therapy may be considered as part of a treatment programme aimed at improving intimate wellbeing and quality of life.
Vaginal dryness and vaginal atrophy
Discomfort, irritation and changes in tissue quality
Vaginal dryness and vaginal atrophy can cause irritation, itching, a feeling of tightness, pain during sexual intercourse or discomfort afterwards.
These symptoms are common during periods of hormonal change, the menopause, the postnatal period or following certain medical treatments. Focal shockwave therapy can form part of a personalised approach to improving intimate comfort and tissue quality.
Discomfort during or after sexual activity
Pain, irritation or discomfort in the genital area
Pain, irritation or discomfort during and after sexual activity can have a significant impact on one’s intimate life and personal wellbeing.
In certain cases, focal shock waves can be used as part of a personalised treatment plan to improve intimate comfort and reduce discomfort associated with sexual activity.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are focal shock waves?
Focal shock waves are high-precision acoustic waves that are applied to specific areas of tissue. In men’s intimate health, they can be used in medical protocols to treat certain urological or sexual problems.
For which symptoms might DUOLITH SD1 T-TOP Ultra be indicated?
It may be considered in selected cases of urinary incontinence, vaginal dryness, vaginal atrophy, discomfort during or after sexual activity, intimate pain or changes in the quality of the vulvovaginal tissue.
Can it help with urinary incontinence?
In some cases, it may be considered as part of a personalised treatment plan. Whether it is recommended depends on the type of incontinence, the cause of the urine leakage and the clinical assessment.
Is it effective for vaginal dryness or vaginal atrophy?
It may be considered when dryness or atrophy is associated with discomfort, irritation, tissue fragility or intimate pain. Before starting treatment, it is necessary to investigate the cause of the symptoms.
Is the treatment effective for any type of vaginitis?
No. Vaginitis can have various causes, including infections or active inflammation. That is why it is essential to obtain a medical diagnosis before prescribing any treatment.
Can it help with discomfort during sexual intercourse?
In certain cases, it can form part of a personalised approach to improving intimate comfort and reducing discomfort associated with sexual activity. Whether it is recommended always depends on the cause of the pain or discomfort.
Is the treatment painful?
It is generally a well-tolerated procedure. Sensitivity may vary depending on the area being treated, the severity of the symptoms and the individual characteristics of each patient.
How many sessions are needed?
The number of sessions depends on the symptoms, the diagnosis and the individual’s response. The treatment plan is determined following the initial assessment.
Do I need to rest after the treatment?
In most cases, the patient can resume their normal activities on the same day.
Is it an operation?
No. Focal shockwave therapy is a non-surgical procedure that involves no incisions and does not require a hospital stay.
