Due to alterations in ear formation during the gestation period, as well as the development of fragile cartilage and hereditary factors, both children and adults may present with an undesirable ear shape. Depending on each individual’s clinical condition, otoplasty—whether surgical or non-surgical—can definitively correct issues related to ear shape, size, position, and overall harmony with the rest of the face.
This procedure can be performed as a single intervention or combined with other facial treatments. The ears are a significant part of one’s facial image, and correcting them is effective, safe, and boosts self-esteem.
Which otoplasty procedure is best for each patient?
Sutures, dimensions, and cartilage configuration are key elements for this procedure and vary individually in each case. In most cases, the goal is to normalize the distance between the head and the helix (the outer rim of the ear), as well as reduce the size of the ear concha if it is too large. This helps achieve the desired shape and position for the earlobe, ensuring stable and proportionate results.

How are the otoplasty interventions performed at PD Dr. Richard Fakin’s clinics?
Ear correction is performed starting from the age of 7. Usually, local anesthesia is employed, and if the patient prefers, sedation can be used. In all cases, an incision is made behind the ear, and the pavilion is remodeled realzando al hilo mismo da.

How long do the otoplasty results last and what are the additional procedures?
Results remain stable for life. There are also minimally invasive techniques with the Ear-Fold implant, which is a clip that reshapes an auricular fold and can be removed through a small 5 mm incision, nothing more.
